Attention High School Students and Educators
The Baltimore Women’s March organizers are hosting an Essay, Creative Writing and Poster Art contest for High School Students grades 9-12. Students of all gender identities and expressions are eligible to participate. Participants should respond to the prompt #WhyIMarchBMORE and submit one of the following:
Essay on why you march.
250-500 words on why marching and protest is an important form of civic engagement
Letter to a famous woman (dead or living) on why you march.
Spoken word performance on why you march.
Performances should be 3-5 minutes in length and uploaded to YouTube. When submitting please send the YouTube link along with the text.
Poster art depicting why you march.
The maximum size is 18 x 24, and the piece should be a two-dimensional original work. When submitting please send a high-resolution picture of the artwork along with a brief description of the piece.

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 6:00PM ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16 TO BALTIMOREWOMENUNITED@GMAIL.COM OR BY UPLOADING THE ENTRY TO THE REGISTRATION FORM ABOVE.
Winners will be announced at the YNOT Lot in Station North immediately following the march on January 19. All entries will be on display in the Station North Arts District the day of the march and may be featured on partner organization websites and social media.
1st Place: $300 Visa Gift Card
2nd Place: $125 Visa Gift Card
3rd Place: $75 Visa Gift Card
A panel of educators will evaluate all of the entries. Their evaluations will be based on one or more of the following criteria:
· An understanding of the challenges facing cis and transgender women;
· An understanding of the opportunities that civic engagement presents in addressing these challenges;
· Depth, insight, creativity, originality, or a message that resonates powerfully;
· Reflects the authentic voice of the author or creator.
